Mornings arrive
like a call to prayer
over the China Sea.
He calls the sun to rise
above blue mountains
arms outstretched
over Penang.
He calls heat to rise
like fog, calls the sea
to the sand, calls the crab
to shore, sand shuffling
under its feet.
Dogs resting on the beach
lift their heads
sniff the new day.
